P.E.

Intent

At All Saints, we provide a unique and child-centred approach to PE, which enables every child to succeed at their own level by being engaged, supported and challenged. Children are immersed in a culture which aims to inspire an active generation who enjoy PE and encourage each other.

We want all children to develop and improve the fundamental skills needed to access all physical activity such as invasion games, gymnastics or dance. Children will understand the importance of healthy competition against either themselves (personal best) or other children, the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle and the role that physical activity plays in achieving this. Children are supported in becoming reflective, whilst striving for personal excellence and portraying good sportsmanship.

Children are encouraged to adopt a positive growth mindset and believe that anything can be achieved with determination and resilience.

They are taught the value and benefits of collaboration, cooperation and teamwork, with an understanding of fairness and equality of play to embed lifelong values.

 Implementation

PE at All Saints Primary School provides challenging and enjoyable learning, through a range of sporting activities including; invasion games, net & wall games, strike and field games, gymnastics, dance, swimming and outdoor & adventurous activities.

EYFS

Pupils are provided with a wide range of opportunities, both indoors and outdoors, to develop their core strength, stability, agility, balance, co-ordination and spatial awareness. These are based on a mixture of gross and fine motor skills.

 KS1

Pupils focus on developing their fundamental movement skills (running, jumping, throwing and catching) by accessing a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others.

 KS2

Pupils continue to apply and develop their previously learnt skills and learn how to use them in different ways. They further their abilities in communicating, collaborating and competing with others. On an individual level, they develop an understanding about how evaluating their skills can help them make improvements.

Every pupil in school takes part in the “Daily Mile”, to help meet the government target of all children being active for at least 60 minutes a day. A group of Year 6 Sports Leaders are sporting role models for the younger children, assisting with playtime/lunch-time activities, helping them to create and play a wide variety of games to help keep them active.

The School Sports Premium has enabled us to employ a sport’s coach to help provide chances for PE and sport to be enhanced during lunch time play and has developed opportunities for all to experience high quality PE and enjoy more active playtimes.

Children in Year 3 swim once a week for one term.

We offer a 3 day water based OAA experience for children in year 4.

We offer a residential OAA residential experience for children in Year 6.

Quality First Teaching

PE is adapted when necessary to ensure it is fully inclusive, allowing children of all abilities to engage and develop at their own pace, promoting equality and diversity.

Throughout the school, class teachers follow the PE Progression of Skills Document. The aim of this is to see a clear progression of skills throughout their school journey.
