Intent
- To provide a quality music curriculum so that children learn the musical skills of listening and analysing, perform, reading music and composition.
- To ensure the progression of lessons is coherent and follows the national curriculum.
- To develop areas for children to learn instruments over the course of their time at All Saints.
- To provide collective musical experiences for the children which include live performances and chances to sing in larger groups.
Implementation
- Music is taught in KS2 weekly using Kapow from Autumn term 2024.
- Kapow will be used in EYFS and KS1.
- Children will have access to a variety of instruments such as, glockenspiels as a tuned instrument, later boomwackers will be used in year 2 in their music lessons. Children will be taught to play the recorder in year 5 and year 6. This could be used in whole-class instrumental lessons and at any other time in music lessons, for example when performing or composing, as appropriate.
- Children have opportunities to take part in the Little Big Sing in year 1 and year 2, and Young Voices in year 5 year 6.
