Implementation
- Daily lessons, with a range of learning opportunities throughout the week
- NCETM Mastering Early Number: 4 sessions per week for Reception, Year One and Year Two (from Sep 2023).
- White Rose Maths long-term curriculum and small steps used to guide planning of daily sessions from Year 1 to Year 6.
Teacher CPD 2023-24: Focus on lesson design; planning learning for fluency, reasoning and problem-solving; vocabulary and stem sentences.
Quality First Teaching Approaches
- Explicit focus on vocabulary including pre-teaching and oral rehearsal.
- Adaptive teaching with scaffolded support for inclusive and aspirational teaching.
- Key questions planned and shared with TAs/LSAs.
- Modelling from teacher: use of resources, visualiser, exercise book.
- ‘I Do, We Do, You Do’ approach for transferring learning responsibility.
- Pre-planning for misconceptions and cognitive load.
- Manipulatives are used as scaffolding.
- Examples and non-examples of new Maths concepts to stretch thinking and understanding.
